What do you think of when you think Ski resort? Is it a big, old lodge full of couches? Big snowy hills to ski down. Hot chocolate by a fireplace after a day of flying down the slopes? While many of these ideas might be true, it’s only the beginning. If you think a ski resort is all about skiing, think again. And read on!
Of course, most people who intend to go to a ski resort are interested in skiing. And so, there will be some great ski trails. These trails are also a choice for snowboarding. In some cases, there will also be snow tubing. If you don’t have the equipment for any of these activities, there should be a place on-site to rent anything you need. Most ski resorts are in places that usually have lots of snow, but there are some that make man-made snow.
But, if you want to do something besides skiing, then you should have no problem finding things to amuse yourself. How about a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride? Or, spend some time out on the ice, skating or playing hockey. Or go for a thrilling dog sled ride. Most resorts will have any of these options available to you, along with all sorts of indoor activities as well. Indoor pools, hot tubs, saunas, and game rooms should be the norm at most ski resorts. And, with lodging and restaurants right on site, you won’t ever need to leave the resort.
But if you choose to leave during your visit, there’s likely to be a town nearby, with lots of activities like movie theaters, clubs, and great restaurants. Remember, these towns know that the ski resort is nearby. They probably are well prepared for tourist overflow.
If you’re worried about safety on your ski vacation, don’t be. Because so many people consider skiing a dangerous sport, they have all sorts of precautions set up. Not only are there plenty of first aid centers, but there are also ski patrol officers all over the place. The ski patrol is there to look after everything. They can help in case of lost skiers and accidents on the slopes. They can also extract people who are being dangerous. Make sure you find out what kind of ski patrol your ski resort has. Also, ask for a list of rules on the slopes, and be sure to follow those rules. After all, while skiing is far from the most dangerous activity, there is a danger if you don’t take certain precautions. When everyone’s safe, then everyone can have a good time.
If you still have questions, be sure to call your travel agent. He or she should be able to help you with any questions you might have.
Skiing vacations are great fun, whether you’re taking your family or a group of friends. So, the next time you plan to get away, consider a ski vacation.
